Story

Mission: Mompossible follows two families with very different ideas about motherhood, family responsibility and personal dreams. Kang Da-mi is a cheerful and determined young woman who has spent much of her life putting her family before herself. After years of setting aside her own ambitions, she begins looking for an opportunity to pursue the dreams she had previously left behind. Da-mi works as a personal assistant to designer Cha Seung-yoon. Seung-yoon is talented and successful but has a cold personality shaped by difficult experiences from his childhood. His relationship with Da-mi does not begin smoothly, and the two often find themselves disagreeing with each other. As they spend more time together, however, their relationship gradually changes. What begins with arguments and misunderstandings slowly develops into trust and affection. At the same time, the complicated relationships between their families create additional conflicts. The story explores motherhood, sacrifice, ambition, family expectations and the desire to live a life of one’s own.

Review

Mission: Mompossible combines the familiar setting of a Korean family drama with romance and multiple interconnected family relationships. The story gives particular attention to the contrast between two different approaches to motherhood. While one mother has spent much of her life sacrificing for her family, another has chosen to prioritize her own ambitions and desires. The developing relationship between Kang Da-mi and Cha Seung-yoon provides the romantic storyline, while their respective families create additional conflicts and emotional situations. The daily-drama format gives the series considerable space to develop its characters and relationships over its planned 120-episode run.
